Sonographic Finding of Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

Abstract
Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) is most common disease, which needs to surgical reconstruction in newborn infant period.
Since Teele and Smith were reported sonographic finding of HPS, ultrasound study has been the initial diagnostic modality of HPS. Several measurement criteria on pyloric region were reported, however there are may controversies.
To evaluate the most useful, reliable parameter for the sonographic diagnosis of HPS, this study was done with reviewed sonographic findings of 18cases, which is clinically suspected HPS.
Useful criteria were measurement of pyloric m. thickeness, pyloric canal length and diameter, and also visible abnormal echo pattern such as target or cervix sign and double tract sign positive. Measurement of pyloric canal dimension is less
useful
and
only necessary to adjuvant tool for the equivocal cases. Longitudinal scan image using high frequency(7.5~10MHz) trasnducer will be more easily recognized the HPS.
